Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1864)
Keisai Eisen (1790-1848)
Two surimono
Edo period, 19th century
each a woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, and comprising:
- A courtesan standing beside a seated man resting his elbows on a brazier where a large scallop shell is cooking alongside a kettle, signed Gototei Kunisada ga (Pictured by Gototei Kunisada), commissioned for the Taikogawa Poetry Circle, privately published, circa 1820s-1830
- A pair of stirrups alongside a horse bit, riding crop and spray of plum blossoms, signed Keisai, privately published, circa 1830
Both surimono, shikishiban:
21.1 x 18.5 cm., 8½ x 7¼. (the first)
21.2 x 18.9 cm., 8½ x 7½. (the second)
