woodblock print, surimono, from the series Famous Horses (Meba bansuzuki), signed Hokkei, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, privately published 1810s-30s

 

Surimonoshikishiban: 21.1 x 18.5 cm., 8½ x 7¼.

Red Hare was a famous horse owned by the warlord Lu Bu who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China.
