Totoya Hokkei (1780-1850)

Four surimono

Edo period, 19th century 


each a woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, and comprising:

- Lion Dance (Shishimai), from the series Contest of Treasures (Takara awase), signed Aoigaoka, privately published early 1830s

- A Pair of Stirrups in Edo Musashi (Edo Musashi abumi), from the series The Three Cities (Santo no uchi), signed Hokkei, privatley published early 1820s

- An open fan and commander's baton (saihai), signed Hokkei, privately issued

- Feather, seal and wood box, signed and sealed Hokkei, privately issued


Each a surimonoshikishiban:

21 x 18 cm., 8¼ x 7 in. (the first)

20 x 18 cm., 7¾ x 7 in. (the second)

19.5 x 13.3 cm., 7¾ x 5¼ in. (the third)
