Munakata Shiko (1903-1975)
Two woodblock prints
Showa period, 20th century
each a woodblock print, sumizuri-e, with hand-applied colour, signed in pencil to the lower left in Japanese Shiko and in Roman script, framed and glazed, and comprising:
- Early Spring (Hoshun no saku), dated 1956.5.18; with woodblock printed certificate of authenticity (kanteisho) by the artist's son, Munakata Pariji (1934-1998), hand-numbered in Japanese script 6,211 with attestation Munakata Shiko saku (made by Munakata Shiko), signed Munakata Pariji and with two red seals
- Landscape with grapes, sealed Muna, dated 1958.4.10, and with artist's penciled pine needle mark
The first: 49 x 38 cm., 19¼ x 15 in. (excluding frame and mount); 80 x 65.5 cm., 31½ x 25½ in. (including frame)
The second: 59.5 x 23 cm., 23½ x 20¾ in. (the print); 88 x 86 cm., 34⅝ x 33⅞ in. (including frame)
