Printed in colors, each signed in stone and inscribed "Copyright 1901 by Robert Howard Russell" (lower left), with the title-page printed in black and red, and introductory note by Owen Wister; some chipping to edges of mounts. In original publisher's portfolio, cloth spine and paper-covered boards, label to upper cover, cloth ties; extremities rubbed with some loss and fraying to cloth, minor soiling.

Remington's seminal portfolio of chromolithographs depicting characters from the American West, featuring four "rough rider" archetypes (A Cavalry Officer, An Army Packer, An Arizona Cowboy, and A Trapper), as well as four Native American archetypes (A Cheyenne Buck, A Sioux Chief, A Breed, and Old Ramon).
