Wycliffe, John

Two Short Treatises, Against the Orders of the Begging Friars. Oxford: Joseph Barnes, printer to the University, 1608

4to (165 x 122 mm). Glossary at end. Woodcut head- and tailpieces, woodcut initials; closely trimmed costing some letters in shoulder notes and shaving some headlines and catchwords, those in the first gathering added in pen manuscript. Modern quarter calf, marbled boards.

First edition of this scarce pamphlet, with only two copies appearing in the last half century according to auction records. STC states that this work was “issued with” Thomas James's An apologie for lohn Wickliffe, and Madan that “this book is usually found with the James volume,” but Hazlitt and Lowndes treat it as a separate work.
