In 6s (181 x 112 mm). Folding engraved frontispiece map of "The Colonization Grants to Zavala, Vehlein & Burnet in Texas" by S. Stiles & Co., with the three grants handcolored in yellow, pink, and green, respectively, steel-engraved plate of a buffalo hunt after A. Fisher by W. E. Tucker; map offset and with short marginal fold separation, occasional light browning. Publisher's blue pebbled cloth; rebacked preserving portions of original spine, corners worn, lightly soiled. Half blue morocco folding-case.


First edition of a scarce Texas guide book. A promotional publication of the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company, which controlled the Burnet, Vehlein, and Zavala grants. The accompanying map, which features the grants, also includes an inset plan of the Port of Galveston, made by Alexander Thompson of the Mexican Navy.
