A Meissen ‘Gelber Löwe’ plate, circa 1740
decorated in Kakiemon style, painted with a tiger curling around a flowering bamboo shoot opposite a flower prunus issuing from a gnarled tree stump, framed by scattered flower sprigs, shaped brown line rim, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, pressnummer 16 to inside of footrim
23.5cm, 9¼in diameter
Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
