A Meissen Oval Tureen Base from the 'Möllendorff' Service, Circa 1761
of 'preußisch-musikalischen' design, moulded with panels of musical, floral and military trophies within scrollwork cartouches, reserved within an iron-red scale-ground edged in a gilt-dentil border, affixed with two scroll handles twisted with flowering vine and supported on four paw feet, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue
width across handles 13 1/4 in., 33.6 cm
Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
