A Meissen 'Fabeltiere' Plate, Circa 1740
painted, in the manner of A. F. von Löwenfinck, with a Fabeltier, or mythical animal, at the center, surrounded by insects and puce monochrome flower sprigs, with a shaped rim, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed numeral 16
diameter 9 1/4 in., 23.5 cm
Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
