Oksana Levchenya-Konstantinovska was born in 1975 in Bershad in the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine and initially trained as a surgeon. The present work, executed in 2011, forms part of her earlier artistic practice which focused on painting. In 2016 she founded OLK, a Kyiv-based company that was born out of her determination to preserve the traditional Ukrainian weaving techniques and produces hand-woven rugs and tapestries. Combining scientific and spiritual references and made up of intricate patterns the present work, despite being on canvas, organically connects to the evolution of Levchenya’s practice towards a multidisciplinary approach.
