This large-format painting is a copy after the Triumph of the Church tapestry designed by the preeminent Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens. Commissioned in 1625 for the royal Monastery of the Descalzas Reales by Archduchess Isabel Clara Eugenia, the daughter of King Phillip II of Spain, the series comprises twenty illusionistic scenes depicting the Triumph of the Eucharist. Rubens's model for the composition is in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (P001698).
