Nicholas Durcot, J’aime Paris: Photographs Since the Twenties by André Kertész, p. 220 (there dated 1931)
When André Kertész emigrated from Hungary to Paris in 1925 with a temporary visa, he had limited hopes of remaining there for an extended period of time. However, he discovered that Paris was a thriving cultural center with a vibrant artistic community, and stayed for a decade. In Paris, he created some of his most celebrated photographs, including Satiric Dancer and Chez Mondrian. His photographs in parks like the Square du Vert-Galant and Parc de Sceaux were clear precursors to the studies he would make of New York in later years.
Meudon is a southwest suburb of Paris, known for parks, trees, and the Paris Observatory. The northwest part of Meudon that overlooks the Seine is known as ‘Bellevue.’
