A Commonwealth brass lantern clock with alarm, John Samon, London, circa 1650 and later
6¼-inch chapter ring, the dial plate engraved with tulips and signed beneath the chapter ring John Samon Fecit, central alarm disc, the conventional movement with later conversion to verge and front-swinging short pendulum, external locking plate striking on a bell, the conventional posted case with urn finials, shield frets, the front fret engraved and bearing the date 1649, the alarm train mounted on the iron back plate, turned conical feet; together with a later oak wall bracket with label stating that this clock had been bought from the Wetherfield Collection in 1923
