Two Meissen Armorial Plates from the Münchhausen Service, Circa 1745


painted in purple monochrome enriched with gilding, with a vignette with a Fabeltier, or mythical animal, surrounded by flower sprigs and insects, the gilt-edged rim supporting the coat of arms, against a scrolling foliate border within a gilt line, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, one with impressed numeral 16

Gift of Augustus III, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, to Gerlach Adolf Freiherr von Münchhausen in 1745
