A Pair of Nymphenburg White Busts of Children, Circa 1765


modelled by Franz Anton Bustelli, the boy with his hair tied with a bow, wearing a loose ruffled shirt, the girl with with a ribbon in her hair, each on a waisted quatrefoil rocaille-moulded pierced socle base


height of tallest 10 1/4 in., 26 cm

A pair of busts in the white is illustrated in C.H. Beck, Franz Anton Bustelli, Nymphenburger Porzellanfiguren des Rokoko das Gesamtwerk, exh. cat., Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, Munich, 24 November 2004 - 13 March 2005, pp. 494-495, nos. 185 and 187, as well as a pair painted in enamels, nos. 186 and 188. An example of the boy, in the white, is in the Bäuml Collection, illustrated in Alfred Ziffer, Nymphenburger Porzellan, Sammlung Bäuml, Stuttgart, 1997, p. 9.


A pair of white busts was sold by Parke Bernet at Chateau-sur-Mer in Newport, Rhode Island, The Estate of Edith M.K. Wetmore and Maude A.K. Wetmore, September 18, 1969, lot 807. A further bust of the boy, in the white, was sold at Christie's London, June 12, 1995, lot 272.
