FIRST EDITION, 2 volumes, 8vo, numerous illustrations, plans and maps (20 folding), manuscript letter loosely inserted from Adam Blaue to General Lord Mark Kerr dated 28 February 1894, ownership inscription of Kerr in both volumes, original blue pictorial cloth gilt, head and foot of spines lightly bumped, slight wear to corners


Churchill’s second book, in which the young war correspondent delivered a brilliant history of British involvement in the Sudan, and an account of the fierce campaign for its reconquest in which he himself participated and, in many significant ways, disapproved of.
