17 volumes in 16 (vols 16-17 bound together), 4to (286 x 205mm.; final volume 254 x 193mm.), engraved frontispiece portrait, 37 single engraved plates, 5 leaves of engraved music in vol.8, 14 folding engraved plates for the Dictionnaire du musique in vol.9, a few sections in vol.13 printed on blue paper, contemporary mottled calf gilt, spines gilt in compartments with red and green lettering-pieces, gilt edges, slipcases, a few joints starting to crack, some slipcases broken


A fine set of Rousseau's works on large crisp paper in contemporary bindings. The works were originally issued in 12 volumes, followed by three volumes of supplement; the final two supplementary volumes appeared in 1789, after the dissolution of the Société typographique, and were published by Barde, Manget et Cie. The works were also published in octavo and duodecimo format at the same time.
