An attractive carte de visite, signed, of Charles Darwin, with an accompanying letter from his grand-daughter Margaret Keynes (1890-1974) to Sir Buckston Browne (1850-1945), who had bought Darwin's old home.
Margaret was the daughter of Sir George Howard Darwin (1845-1912), the English barrister and astronomer and son of Charles Darwin. Her husband Geoffrey was the brother of economist John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946). Geoffrey was a British surgeon and bibliographer. Sir George Buckston Browne was a British surgeon and pioneering urologist who in 1927 bought Charles Darwin's former home, Down House, and founded the Buckston Browne Research Farm there in 1931.
