assuring him that he understands his friend's embarrassment at being unable to invite him to the wedding reception of Monet's son Jean, and explaining that he is prevented from attending any social events by the long convalescence of his own son Lucien, continuing that he expects to remain with his son in London until the end of the month, then return to Eragny, in French, 2 pages, 8vo, 62 Bath Road, Bedford Park, London, 10 June 1897
A LETTER OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TWO IMPRESSIONIST MASTERS. Both artists were now well into middle age with adult children, and this letter was written at the time of the marriage of Monet's son Jean to his step-sister Blanche Hoschedé. Monet was close to Blanche, who often painted alongside him and worked as his assistant, so this union brought him great satisfaction. Pissarro, meanwhile, was in London. His artist son Lucien (1863-1944) had settled in the city and was married with a young daughter, but had suffered a stroke in March and was slowly recuperating.
