Michael Craig-Martin’s line drawings of commonplace objects from the modern world – made as paintings, prints, animations, or with tape directly onto the wall – ask the viewer to consider his seemingly ordinary subjects’ importance.
This new painting on aluminium is in Craig-Martin’s hallmark flat, graphic style. Although the artist often groups together familiar items in his imagery, this work focuses on a single piece of fruit depicted in the artist’s vibrant palette. The banana’s original colour is only used in the background, thus questioning the relationship between the real object and the image.
