folio (276 x 196mm.), woodcut initials, early nineteenth-century calf-backed speckled boards, occasional light foxing, small wormhole in gutter, I4 slightly soiled, binding slightly rubbed


Procopius's account of the wars against the Persians and against the Vandals, in which he took part alongside the Byzantine general Belisarius, was translated by Raffaele Maffei and corrected by Andrea Nucius. The papal privilege printed above the colophon names Giacomo Mazzocchi.
