Pauli apostoli Epistolae... Brescia: Damiano & Giacomo Filippo Turlino, (May) 1537

8vo (158 x 103mm.), woodcut initials, metalcut illustration on A2v of SS Peter and Paul holding up the Holy Shroud, woodcut printer's device on final verso, modern half vellum, occasional worming or staining

This edition of the letters of Paul the Apostle was printed by the Turlini brothers of Brescia who specialised in popular printing.

Rava gives a full description of the metalcut illustration, which is on a completely black ground, explaining the Byzantine appearance of the face of Christ and comparing it with the Germanic Schrottblatt images of the mid-fifteenth century.
