folio (293 x 193mm.), title-page with woodcut printer's device, woodcut initials, double-page woodcut plan of the Baths of Diocletian, eighteenth-century calf gilt, spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges, occasional light foxing, inscription washed from head of title-page, slight damp-staining at foot of quires N-S, binding very slightly rubbed and somewhat dampstained


FIRST EDITION of Bacci's vast survey of baths and hot springs across Europe and beyond, discussing the geological origins of water and springs as well as their medical properties for both internal and external use. A second edition was printed by Valgrisi's son Felice in 1587.
