Potted with a rounded body resting on three tapering legs, the edges of which are also softly rounded, the form of the vessel - despite the small capacity - was popular with many extant examples preserved. See a similar tripod vessel also from the Xiajiadian lower culture, now preserved in the Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum, acquisition no. 2006.170.112. See also a black pottery example with cold-painted designs, illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol. III, London, 2006, no. 1088.
