Allegory of Spring

signed: A. Passani Galleria P. Bazzanti Florence

white marble

127cm., 50in.

This elegant allegorical figure of Spring shows the influence of Art Nouveau on Italian sculptors in the early 20th century. Born in Carrara, Italo Amerigo Passani was active primarily in Florence, where he received his training. He exhibited his works throughout Italy and beyond, including at the Paris Salon and the Venice Biennale. Active primarily as a genre sculptor in a variety of materials, Passani also worked as a medallist.

The present sculpture was carved for the Florentine Bazzanti Gallery, which exported marbles to an illustrious clientele in Europe and America.
