Sylvia Plath
Portrait of Ted Hughes, head and shoulders, in profile, inscribed by Hughes on the reverse in pencil ("By Sylvia | Plath | Ted Hughes"), 215 x 140mm, [1956]
This sketch was drawn shortly after their marriage, probably during their honeymoon in Paris and Benidorm. For Plath's letter to Hughes describing her love of drawing see lot 12, and in Birthday Letters Hughes recalled that "As you drew | I felt released, calm" (from 'Drawing').
