Description

Sassicaia 1988

Bolgheri Sassicaia, DOC

Released directly by Tenuta San Guido especially for this sale, in celebration of Sassicaia's 50th vintage on the market. Excellent level, good appearance, cork very slightly depressed, tissue wrapped, owc banded till inspection, owc

On its 30th birthday, this remains a wonder of the wine world, with its great, intensely classic Cabernet Sauvignon nose, as youthful as ever. There is tremendous structure and sweetness on the palate - a liquid of extraordinary impact and a candidate for the most exciting wine ever produced in Italy! I have to call it, Operatic Cabernet Sauvignon. It has its own twist on the theme but, boy, does it deliver. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
