Michel was the youngest son of the menuisier Jean Cresson and had his workshop on rue de Cléry under the sign 'Au Gros Chapelet'. He was the younger brother of the celebrated menuisier Louis Cresson (1706-1761) who supplied chairs to the Prince de Condé and the Duc d'Orléans. After his brother's death, Michel Cresson also supplied pieces to the Prince de Condé for his residence at the Palais Bourbon and for his country seat, the Château de Chantilly.
