A Hoshi-bachi [helmet with raised rivets]
Edo period, 17th century
the iron sixty-two plate bowl with raised rivets, copper-gilt three-tier tehen kanamono of chrysanthemum form, the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] with stenciled Dutch leather and mokko ni chigai takanoha mon [crossed falcon feathers within a melon-shaped crest], the mabisashi [peak] with red lacquer to underside, the black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] with spaced blue lacing, gilt metal kuwagata
Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Object], no. 1631 issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon Kai [Japanese Armour Preservation Society], dated Heisei 28 (2016).
The bowl to peak: 29 cm., 11½ in.
The shikoro to peak: 33 cm., 13 in.
