Valencian artist Miguel Parra exhibited a precocious talent at a young age, joining the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos when he was just twelve years old. He was appointed court painter to King Fernando VII of Spain in 1818, for whom he painted portraits and elaborate still lifes. The present pair of still lifes demonstrates Parra's propensity to include architectural elements in his highly detailed and colourful compositions.
