8vo (199 x 120 mm). Half-title, 4 pages of advertisements; early ownership signature to title. Disbound, text block almost in two parts, but holding, light toning to end leaves. In morocco-backed slipcase with cloth chemise.

First Edition, a strong argument in support of the Stamp Act, and the rights of Parliament to tax the colonies.

Sabin quotes an account of the first work and its anonymous author from the Monthly Review: "This is, in truth, a most fiery politician, and his pamphlet a mere firebrand. In reply to the objections of the colonists to a standing army, he says that they have need of the gentlemen of the blade, to polish and refine their manners, to rub off the rust of puritanism."

Scarce. The first copy to appear at auction in over twenty-five years.
