3 vols., 8vo (189 x 112 mm). 3 engraved portraits of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay; some light toning and foxing. Antique mottled calf, spines smooth, red morocco title labels, spines ruled and numbered in gilt; recased, small losses to head- and tail-pieces, a few fairly unobtrusive worm spots to covers, skillful circular repair to back board of vol. 3.
The first collected edition, with an early printing of The Federalist
The first volume contains five of Hamilton's reports as Secretary of the Treasury, while volumes II and III are devoted primarily to the Federalist Papers, and include significant additions, incorporating changes based on Hamilton's own notes.
