8vo (206 x 123 mm). Contemporary manuscript index, title to each work, 3 (of 4) folding plates to Finances; Finances lacking folding plate "(B)", some browning and offsetting, a few stray spots. Full speckled calf, gilt-lettered label to spine, marbled endpapers.
First edition of Alfred Gallatin's pioneering work, bound with a first edition of Monroe's defense of his term as Minister to France. Gallatin served as Jefferson’s Treasury Secretary, and helped to define the manner in which a president used executive power to limit governmental power.
