Three volumes, 4to (207 x 203 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Franklin (vol. 1), facsimile of Franklin’s 5 July 1775 letter to publisher and MP William Strahan (vol. 2 frontispiece), and engraved plate of a glass harmonica (vol. 3 frontispiece); frontispieces spotted, fore-edges of vol. 1 frontispiece through to C2 slightly stained, vol. 3 frontispiece offset to title-page. Contemporary half calf over blue-green marbled boards, smooth spines ruled and numbered gilt, black lettering pieces.
First edition in quarto format.
