On November 12, 1966, Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin photographed himself with the hatch of the spacecraft open, and the Earth in the background. Along with Command Pilot Jim Lovell, Gemini XII successfully demonstrated that astronauts could effectively work outside of a spacecraft.
