Glass snuff bottles created with double overlays required considerable skill and precision, and resulted in vivid three dimensionality.
A closely related example of this rare group illustrated in Moss, Graham and Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, vol. 5: Glass, Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 680-681, no. 1003, was sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 27th May 2012, lot 7. See also another double-overlay glass snuff bottle included in the exhibition Chinese Snuff Bottles, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1977, pp. 27 & 123, pl. 18, and sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 24th November 2012, lot 24, from the collection of Paul Braga.
