Description

A silver and gold Maid Of Honour cypher, Hahn, St Petersburg, circa 1901, number 139

Shaped as Cyrillic initials 'MA' for Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, with rose-cut paste-set mounts, surmounted by a hinged paste-set crown, apparently unmarked, numbered 139

height 7.2cm, 2 4/5in.

Most likely awarded to Evgenia Arapova on 1 April 1901
The scratched number 139 on the present Maid of Honour cypher corresponds to entries 155-157 in the Imperial Cabinet Ledgers, recorded on 10 April 1901, and is most likely that for entry 156, which was awarded to Fräulein Evgenia Arapova on 1 April 1901.  Evgenia Arapova was the daughter of a Colonel (Polkovnik) of the Guards and in 1915 was recorded as living in Sergievskaya number 81 in Petrograd.
