A Red Army soldier keeping watch: a Soviet porcelain figure, after a design by Ovnanovich, Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, Leningrad, 1930

depicted wrapped in a large white coat with orange shading black and grey fur trim and a green helmet with a red star, holding a rifle by his side, on a flat rectangular base, inscribed with blue factory mark

This is the most popular porcelain design by the Armenian sculptor Davtyan Ovnanovich. Ovnanovich moved to Leningrad and worked at the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in the 1930s, where he created the design for five well known 'Eastern figures' alongside the present work.
