The work is accompanied by a certificate from Caroline Haardt de La Baume, author of the forthcoming Alexander Yakovlev catalogue raisonné.
On the reverse of the present work is a study for the painting La Ganza (1926), now in the collection of the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium. Capturing the artist’s impressions from the 1925 Croisière noire expedition, the study depicts three Banda men wearing traditional ceremonial headdresses used during the initiation ritual known as Ganza.
