This early mature work by Krasnopevtsev belonged to Stan Wayman, a photojournalist for LIFE magazine who was posted to Moscow in the early 1960s. While there he befriended several artists, among them Oskar Rabin and Vasily Sitnikov, whom he mentions in his diaries. Wayman returned to the United States in 1964, bringing with him several paintings that he had been given, including the present work. It remained with his family until 2009.
