Mr. Sohal met Ivana Baquero at a convention in London. Guillermo del Toro, who is a big fan of the artist Drew Struzen, wanted to use this design to promote the film, but unfortunately, the studio heads thought that it looked too gruesome, and went ahead instead with the design with the young girl walking towards the split tree.

It is rare for anyone to have an original poster signed, as the majority of signatures are on pieces of paper, photographs, and video/DVD sleeves.

This film was written, directed and co-produced by Guillermo del Toro, and stars Ivana Baquero, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones and Ariadna Gil. The film is set in Spain five years after the Spanish Civil War, during the Francoist period. The story weaves the real world with a mythical world, in which there is an abandoned labyrinth and magical creatures. Animatronics, CGI effects, and make-up all come into play to bring this magical world to life. The story was influenced by classic fairy tales.
