The carved decoration on this urn in the form of a crab may suggest that this painting was once part of a series, possibly formed of still lifes in vases relating to the signs of the Zodiac. The large, splayed tulip, centre left, also appears in a painting of almost identical size by Nuzzi, most recently seen on the market in Paris in 2002, suggesting that both forms probably derive from the same drawing.1
