Bull
bronze, on a bronze base
figure: 33 by 39.5cm., 13 by 15½in.
base: 5.5 by 36cm., 2⅛ by 14⅛in.
The prototype for the present bull is a mottled grey marble antiquity excavated circa 1775-1780 at Ostia and installed in the Sala degli animali in the Vatican shortly thereafter. Other casts in bronze are in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, The Wallace Collection, London and the Liebieghaus, Frankfurt-am-Main.
