Rebecca and Eliezer at the Well

oil on canvas

unframed: 129.3 x 101 cm.; 50⅞ x 39¾ in.

framed: 140.3 x 112.3 cm.; 55¼ x 44¼ in.

The present composition derives from the prime version by Vannini, which extends on the right-hand side to include the well and figures around it, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (inv. no. 1573).1 Two other versions, of a similarly wider format, are the painting in the Pucci Collection, Florence,2 and that sold at Sotheby's, London, 8 March 1972, lot 149.3

Another, most likely workshop version of the same composition as the present work, tentatively attributed to Vannini, was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 28 January 1999, lot 476 for $23,000.
