the verso of the frames inscribed in an old hand with the sitters' identities

We are grateful to Neil Jeffares for his suggestion that these pastels may be by the Scottish artist James Scouler (1740-1812).

Anne Rose, daughter of Hugh Rose of Kilravock Castle, Inverness married Sir Harry Munro 7th Baronet of Foulis (1709-1781) in January 1758. Sir Hugh was their eldest son.
