Description
Microcline var. Amazonite with Smoky Quartz and Albite
Crystal Creek, Crystal Peak, Teller County, Colorado, United States
6 by 3¾ by 4½ inches (15.2 x 9.5 x 11.5 cm). Amazonite crystals reaching 1¾ inches (4.4 cm). Custom lucite base.
This specimen displays inky black and sharply defined smoky quartz points accented with numerous finely crystalized and strongly saturated green-blue amazonite inclusions.
Microcline is a type of feldspar rich in potassium and small amounts of sodium. Common in granite, it can take on a variety of hues and is characterized by cross-hatch twinning.
Amazonite is a rare variety of microcline, presenting a brilliant turquoise that is a proper testament to the extraordinary locale at which this unique specimen was found.
