First published in 1562, Cardano's book on dreams "comprises an exhortation to interpret dreams, an account of how dreams are caused, classifications of them, advice on how to interpret them, and a final book giving examples of prophetic dreams. This includes a chapter described fifty-five of his own dreams" (A. Browne, "Girolamo Cardano's Somnorium synesiorum libri IIII", Bibliothèque d'Humanisme et Renaissance 41 (1979), 123-135, p.123).
