Anjum Singh was born to artist parents - Arpita and Paramjit Singh. Following their career path, she studied at Shantiniketan, Delhi University and finally the The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design in Washington D.C.
Anjum Singh's practice, particularly her later works such as the current sculpture, focused on ecology, the environment and the degradation of natural resources. The man made metal rivets are another nod to her environmental concerns; something as natural, beautiful and simple as a white egg is now being taken over and covered by these metallic forms. In a very clever analogy, Singh is drawing attention to the way the natural world is being overcome and overtaken by synthetic materials.
