This beautifully-rendered mountainscape by Rathindranath Tagore, son of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath, was painted during his years in Dehradun, near the foothills of the Himalayas. Rathindranath moved to Dehradun in the 1950s, having lived in Santiniketan for many decades during his tenure at the Visva Bharati University. The blooming vistas on the steep slopes executed with great skill in the watercolor and wash technique, are rendered with both delicacy and joy which belies the artist’s deep emotional connect with his picturesque surroundings. This exquisite mountain-scene reflects the peaceful years spent by Rathindranath in Dehradun.
